A jailbreak developer who goes by the name of “iPhoneKillerStyle” has thought up a unique Siri mod that replaces the mic icon with Steve Jobs’ silhouette. As you can tell, the mod is pretty detailed. It even allows for multiple Siri mic colors.

Apple has announced its latest version of OS X for Macs. Mountain Lion is available for preview today in two ways. If you’re a consumer, you can read about the new features at Apple’s website. And anyone running OS X Lion can download and install the beta version of Messages, a new app that replaces iChat for instant messaging, and integrates iMessages, the Apple-only text-message replacement service for iPhone, iPad and now Mac.

As much as I commend Apple for prioritizing the cloud by integrating iCloud into Mountain Lion, the company is only shining a bright spotlight on how it’s still way behind the competition when it comes to cloud services.

Now, iCloud is getting more hype than before because it will be integrated inside Apple’s next OS. iCloud gets name-checked in the third sentence of Apple’s press release announcing the new Mountain Lion OS, saying, “Mountain Lion is the first OS X release built with iCloud in mind for easy setup and integration with apps.”

A new update form the world of mac is that Speculation that Apple is to introduce ARM processors to the next revision of its MacBook Airs continues, as one source claims the company is internally testing the ultraportable notebooks with its A5 processor… but will we really see an A5 powered MacBook Air? I don’t think so.

A source for Japanese blog Macotakara claims Apple is currently experimenting with a MacBook Air packing the same CPU as the company’s super-speedy iPad 2. While its unclear whether the device was running Mac OS X or iOS, its performance has been “better than expected.”

In addition to this, I can think of another reasons: Though the A5 chip may be as quick as a stabbed rat when its sat inside your iPad 2, it’s likely to crumble under the pressure of powering a notebook – at least one that runs the Mac OS X operating system. The A5 processor may boast 1GHz of power from each of its dual-cores, but that still not as good as some low-end Intel chipsets. As TUAW points out, the iPad 2′s Geekbench score is around 720, which compares the the low-end MacBook Air’s score of over 2000.

Instead, Apple could potentially be testing a MacBook Air-like notebook running an iOS-like operating system with the A5 chip inside, but don’t expect this to take over the current MacBook Air lineup in the foreseeable future. Recent speculation claimed that Apple will transition its MacBook Air lineup over to ARM-based processors by 2013.

Interesting stuff! We will keep you updated.

Some more great and up and coming news from the world of Apple.

The three new processors will be dual-core with Hyperthreaded processors including graphics cores that range from 350MHz to 1.2Ghz. Main differences from existing CPUs would be a smaller on-board cache of only 3MB of Level 3 cache versus 4MB and lower clock speeds. The chips will use 17 watts of power between the graphics and processor making them efficient enough to be tucked inside of Apple’s MacBook Air.

The chips themselves are due later in the year, but how late is the question. These new processors could significantly impact the base performance of the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Airs.

Rumors say that the MacBook Air will see a refresh this summer, but the current models were released last Fall and it is anyone’s guess if Apple will wait until then to upgrade the popular MacBook Air product line.

Intel’s family of Sandy Bridge processors is about to get a whole lot bigger as the chip manufacturing company ramps up production of new ultra-low voltage (ULV) processors that would be a perfect fit for my favorite portable computer — the MacBook Air.

CPU World has let the proverbial cat out of the bag with a leak this week showing a trio of Core i5 and i7 CPU models that would be faster than the chips currently offered by Intel. Those chips run between 1.4Ghz and 1.6Ghz.

According to CPU World, the new Core i5 2557M will run at 1.7Ghz with the ability to Turbo Boost to 2.7Ghz while the Core i7 2637M and 2677M will run at 1.7Ghz and 1.8Ghz respectively with the ability to run at up to 2.8Ghz and 2.9Ghz respectively.

Another bit of news out there!

Although Apple is notoriously tight-lipped about new products in the pipeline, it’s pretty easy to predict when they’ll refresh one of their devices as long as you know when they last released an update… and this is doubly true for iOS devices, which follow a strict yearly update cycle.

Knowing this, you’d have to be addled-of-brain and swollen-of-tongue to bet against the iPad 2 shipping anytime before early April: after all, the first iPad shipped in America on April 3rd, a Saturday.

MacNotes‘s “reliable sources” tipping either an Apil 2nd or April 9th U.S. release for the iPad 2 aren’t really saying anything jaw-dropping then. They suggest, like last time, that the iPad 2 will ship on a Saturday early in April, and, like last time, it’ll be a U.S. exclusive for a a couple months before launching internationally. Also like last time, they say it’ll be six months before big box retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy get to offer the tablet.

Well, yeah. Duh. My guess is the iPad 2 launch will be more or less identical in timing and specifics to the first-gen iPad launch except for one thing: just a hunch, but I’m betting Apple will have both the WiFi and 3G versions ready simultaneously this time.

Cooollll!!!!!

Apple’s Mac App store launched today alongside the release of Mac OS X 10.6.6, bringing some major iPhone and iPad applications to the Mac platform and pulling some existing Mac favorites into the new App Store.

The Mac App Store is included as part of Mac OS X 10.6.6, and is unavailable for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, which also means it is unavailable for PowerPC Macs. However, anyone with an Intel Mac should be able to run the App Store and download free or paid applications.

Steve Jobs says there are over 1,000 applications available on the Mac App Store at launch, but we’ve never been a fan of using big numbers as an indicator of quality or the availability of applications you would actually want to use. Luckily, there are a ton of good games and well known Mac programs already topping the sales charts.

Some highlights include:

Games:

Twitter for Mac AKA Tweetie 2.0

Angry Birds

Peggle

Zen Bound 2

Applications:

The iLife suite, including iPhoto, iMovie, Garage Band

The iWork suite, with Pages, Keynote, and Numbers

Rapidweaver 5

Pixelmator

Things

Aperture

Evernote

We expect some of the other big name Mac developers will move into the App Store soon, along with iOS developers who may not have written desktop Mac OS X programs before.

Earlier reviewers of the Mac App Store have noticed that if you already have certain Mac App Store applications installed outside the App Store, for instance if you already own the iWork suite, the Mac App store will show those applications as “installed”, even though they do not show as “purchased”. You also cannot rate or review any application unless you buy it through the App Store, even if you already own it.

Stay tuned for more!

Fresh of the press from the people at cult of mac.

We report with reservations, because this rumor — while titillating — is clearly absurd. That said, if you don’t hear it from us, you’ll hear it from someone more breathless: Mac Daily News is claiming that the VerizoniPhone is coming to a Verizon outlet near you as soon as December 26th.

Right there, that date is absurd: no cell company in the world is going to launch their prestige phone right fter Christmas. Mac Daily News claims i’s because AT&T’s “final demand” as part of their exclusivity contract was that Verizon couldn’t get the iPhone until after Christmas, so they could squeeze in as many sales as possible… but even that doesn’t make any sense. This is a legal contract, not a negotiation: either AT&T’s exclusive agreement names a date the contract lapses, or it doesn’t. Either way, they have no negotiating position: the iPhone is bigger than AT&T. Who are they to dictate the terms here?

It gets stupider. Supposedly, the Verizon iPhone will be available the day it’s announced, and it’ll be a 4G smartphone. But here’s the problem: Verizon’s just starting to roll out their LTE network, and they’ve made a point of saying they won’t have any LTE smartphones until they work the kinks out of the system, sometime in mid-2011. More to the point, Apple doesn’t have a history of being progressive when it comes to embracing generational advances in communications technology — the first iPhone, for example, was EDGE-only, even though 3G was ubiquitous.

We’re calling it. There’s no way this is true, even if we’d love it to be. God knows that AT&T’s exclusivity on the iPhone 4 lapsing would be the best Christmas gift Santa Jobs could possibly give us
